A great full time opportunity exists for a dynamic and professional individual to join the Shire of Brookton as the Senior Finance Officer.
The Senior Finance Officer role is part of the Shire’s finance team with responsibility for:
- Perform a range of Local Government finance functions in conformity with legislative requirement.
- Provide support to the Administration and Finance Team.
- Preparation of reports pertinent to the functions of this position.
- Provide support to the payroll functions as required.
- Support the Manager Corporate & Community with general functions and assisting in maintaining the Shire’s financial systems and procedures.
To be considered, you will need experience in an administrative finance role, great computer and IT skills and attention to detail with excellent communication skills. Local government finance or administration experience would be highly desirable, but not essential.
In return the Shire is offering a remuneration package including:
- Full time fixed term contract to 31/10/2026
- Hourly wage $45.1353
- Superannuation of up to 15.5%
- 4 weeks annual leave per annum with leave loading

The Shire of Brookton is seeking a motivated and professional individual to join our finance team as Finance Officer – Rates & Debtors. This is an excellent opportunity to secure a part-time position in a supportive team environment within local government. This opportunity is open to new applicants only.
About the Role
The Finance Officer – Rates & Debtors will be responsible for:
- Managing Council’s property data base;
- Completing Council’s rates functions;
- Preparing debtor invoices and managing Council’s debtor systems; and
- Assisting with Administration and customer service functions.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Previous experience in an administrative or finance role
- Strong computer and IT skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience in local government finance or administration will be highly regarded but is not essential.

- Permanent Part time based on 6 days/48 hours per fortnight. The final roster will be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Expressions of Interest
Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee
The Shire of Brookton invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified individuals to serve as Independent Members of the Shire’s Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) in the roles of Presiding Member and Deputy Presiding Member.
This Committee supports Council’s governance, risk management, financial oversight and continuous improvement functions.
Independent Members of the Committee are expected to exercise due care and diligence, bringing their expertise to guide the Shire in maintaining high standards of governance and performance.
Skills & Experience Required
• Financial Management/reporting;
• Risk Management;
• Information and Systems Technology;
• Audit Committee practices;
• Internal audit; and/or
• Experience in or knowledge of regional local government
Selection Criteria
• Knowledge and experience in statutory financial reporting, risk management, governance, audit and internal controls in a local government setting.
• Strong communication skills.
• Relevant skills and experience in providing independent, expert advice.
• Have a sound understanding or experience in performing the role of Presiding Member and/or Deputy Presiding Member.
• Be a person with no direct association with the Shire as a business entity, either as an Elected Member, an officer or as a closely associated person; and not be an elected member with another local government.

Key Responsibilities Presiding Member and Deputy Presiding Member
The Presiding Member is responsible for leading the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee, ensuring meetings are conducted effectively, independently, and in accordance with legislative and governance standards.
The Deputy Presiding Member supports the Presiding Member and undertakes the Presiding Member’s role at meetings when the Presiding Member is unavailable.
Term & Remuneration
The appointment of Independent Members will be made by Council for a two year term.
The Independent Members will be remunerated in line with Band 4 Salaries and Allowances Tribunal determinations, with Council setting a current fee of $120 per meeting. Time, travel, and incidentals may be reimbursed as prescribed.
