Harvest and Vehicle Movement Bans

A Harvest and Movement Ban on all vehicles in paddocks throughout the Shire of Brookton is in place from midnight to midnight on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

The Shire of Brookton also has an SMS text notification advising on the imposition and lifting of Harvest and Movement Bans.

Restricted Burning Period

The Restricted burning period is scheduled to commence on Saturday 19th September 2020 – this may change based on weather conditions and discretion of the Chief Bush Fire Officer. 

Burning permits can be obtained from your local Fire Control Officers. Camp fires after 4.00 pm are allowed under permit and suitable weather conditions. This allowance can be withdrawn at any time by the Chief Fire Officer.

Please remember the Fire Control Officers are Volunteers.

PROHIBITED Burning Period

The prohibited burning period is CURRENTLY IN PLACE and will remain in place until Monday 28th February 2022 – this may change based on weather conditions and discretion of the Chief Bush Fire Officer.

No burning is permitted during this period.  

Unrestricted/BURN WITH CARE Period

The unrestricted burning period is scheduled to commence on Friday 15th April 2022 and continue until Sunday 18th September 2022 – this may change based on weather conditions and discretion of the Chief Bush Fire Officer. 

No permits are required, but we ask town residents to please consider their neighbours when burning garden waste, and to be aware of smoke issues.


All land owners and occupiers are to have completed their firebreaks by Monday 1st November 2021 and they are to be maintained up to and including Friday 15th April 2022.  

Failure to comply may result in a $5,000 penalty.

Slasher and Rotary Mower Ban

A ban on the use of slashers and rotary mowers shall apply from 11.59pm Friday 6th November 2020 to Sunday 28th February 2021 during the hours of 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and from 6:00 pm on the day a Total Fire Ban is imposed, unless the use is

  1. On a property within a townsite of any size that is reticulated or irrigated; or
  2. On a property outside of the townsite that needs to be slashed or mowed and is irrigated or reticulated, and is less than 1 hectare in area
