From the Shire President – Cr Katrina Crute

The Brookton Shire Council, on behalf of the Community, expresses its deepest sympathy to all those that have lost homes and property in the Wooroloo Bushfire currently raging across Gidgegannup and surrounding areas.

As a Local Government, Brookton has sent a volunteer bushfire crew and vehicle across to assist with the Bushfire Emergency and a second unit has been placed on standby should the request be made. I know I speak confidently on behalf of Council and the Community in expressing our gratitude to the Emergency Service Workers and Volunteers who are working tirelessly to protect all those people in the Bushfire Declared Area.

Council recognises that many local residents are looking for ways to help those in need. With the Department of Communities having previously advised that the donation of goods and clothing is not an appropriate way to assist people as 90% of donated goods unfortunately end up in landfill, I sincerely urge anyone who is looking for a way to help those in need to consider the following organisations and make a cash donation:

While this tragedy is still unfolding it is timely to remind residents of the real risk of bushfire, please if you have not already, talk with your family and prepare a bushfire plan, if you need assistance, visit
