From the Shire President – Cr Katrina Crute

To the Community,

The Community Christmas Party to be held on Friday 11th December 2020, is an opportunity for the Community of the Shire of Brookton to come together, to celebrate the year that has been and to look towards the new year with positivity and enthusiasm. I think we can all agree that after the year that has been, we can all do with celebrating community spirit and resilience as we look positively towards 2021 and all that it has to offer.

Early this year Council asked Community members to put their hand up once again to get involved in what is an important event on our social calendar; and those people came forward. They came forward to help ensure (with the assistance of Council & Staff) that the 2020 Brookton Community Christmas Party was one to remember; I think we can all agree 2019 certainly delivered and 2020 promises to be just as memorable.

This group is chartered (with a limited budget) to come up with something for everyone, with the absolute focus on bringing the community together. They passionately research all sorts of activities and ideas, that enable us all to celebrate with each other.

December can be particularly hot, and the main street with all the bitumen and paving can make that heat considerably excessive. The organising committee has made the decision to move the Community Christmas Party to the WB Eva Pavilion, surrounding oval and facilities. I acknowledge the tradition of the main street, this decision we believe allows for a much safer and more inclusive event to occur.

The organising Committee have been busy planning an event that will include activities for our small children, water activities for our older children, live music, food, and a bar. It also allows our elderly and very small children to seek respite in the airconditioned WB Eva Pavilion and the shade of the veranda. It allows our children to use the huge expanse of lawn to participate safely in all the activities that will be on offer.

Community Groups & Businesses have been offered the opportunity to provide food & beverage services ensuring people have the opportunity to stay and enjoy what absolutely promises to be another great Community Christmas Party.

The Council absolutely supports the decision of the organising committee and we all look forward to another wonderful event.

Should you wish to get involved in the planning, coordinating, or sponsoring of this wonderful event now or into the future please contact Sandie Spencer at the Shire of Brookton, volunteers are always welcome.
