Following on from the Adoption of the 2020/2021 Annual Budget, the allocation of the $500,000 Commonwealth Governments Drought Communities Fund and the $255,000 from the Commonwealth Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program Funding, the Shire Council has made the following commitments for the 2020/2021 Financial Year as we continue to come out of COVID-19:
- No increase in the Shire total rates revenue and fees and charges from 2019/2020.
- The Council’s Community Chest Grants Funding has been increased from $20,000 to $40,000 for 2020/2021.
- The installation of ablutions at the Brookton Cemetery.
- Installation of new fencing and additional lighting in Railway Reserve as per the Shire’s ‘Licence to Occupy’ agreement with the Public Transport Authority.
- The engagement of architectural services to prepare refurbishment/replacement options for Memorial Hall to assist Council in performing community consultation on the preferred way forward.
- Further works to Youth Precinct that includes:
- Co-located Youth Group/ Girl Guides shed style building.
- Installation of fencing, nature playground and landscape screening.
- Upgrade works to the Brookton Aquatic Centre to include roof over changerooms and installation of hot water to the showers.
- Improvements to Memorial Park involving installation of a gazebo and disability access.
- Refreshment of the existing tourist information bay.
- Construction of a new co-located Community Garden/ Men’s Shed building.
- Upgrade of the Brookton Caravan Park to incorporate:
- 2 x 2-bedroom 1-bathroom self-contained disability access chalets.
- Campers kitchen.
- Ablution refurbishments.
- A minimum 4 x concrete caravan pads.
- Upgrade of the sewerage network including refurbishing/relining of pipe network.
- A one-off donation to the Aldersyde Agricultural Hall Inc. for upgrade of the Hall building and infrastructure.
- Extension of the bitumen seal for Youraling Road – 520m.
- Improvements to closure of Sewell Street.
- Further improvements to the Shire Works Depot:
- Concrete floors to existing sheds.
- New wash down facility.
- New site office and lunchroom for works staff.
- New boundary fencing,
These initiatives represent a significant investment by Council in several projects and capital works that have been identified. This does not take into account future decisions around the Railway Station and Memorial Hall that are still to come. The Community can be reassured that Council has reserve funds it can access depending on the outcome of those decisions and will pursue external grant funding where possible.
Council looks forward to working with the Community to deliver on these initiatives and no doubt many others as our Community, State and Nation progress recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
