Children and Families
The Brookton Early Years Network envisions a community that works together to benefit the life outcomes of children through the following guiding principles:
- Prioritising child development in the early years.
- The provision of accessible and appropriate services, facilities and environments.
- Engagement of all parents in services and activities which will promote optimal child development, particularly from high risk groups.
- Open communication channels and collaboration between agencies, community groups and individual community members.
- Fostering the development of all children (0-8 years) through promotion and engagement in early years’ strategies, with 0-5 year olds being a priority target.
- Ongoing support provided to existing programs and development of new programs which promote the development of children.
- Existence of a representative body to advocate for issues which affect Early Years in Brookton.

Australian Early Development Census
The Brookton Public Library offers a range of services and resources for childrens and families. In particular the following programmes that focus on early literacy.
Storytime
Storytime is a story telling session for pre-schoolers, followed by a fun craft activity.
Baby Rhyme Time
Baby rhyme time is for parents and their babies (aged two months to two years). These sessions will introduce the benefits and fun ways of sharing nursery rhymes and action songs with your baby.
Better Beginnings
Better Beginnings is an early literacy program coordinated by the State Library of Western Australia that aims to promote the importance of reading, rhyming and talking to your baby. Brookton residents with children aged one year and under can collect a free book and parent kit from the library if they have not already received one from their local community child health nurse.
Kidsport
KidSport enables eligible Western Australian children aged 5-18 years to participate in community sport and recreation by offering them financial assistance towards club fees. Apply here.
Safer Swimming
Brookton Aquatic Centre - is open from November through to March and offers infant and toddler swimming pools under shade. Brookton Amateur Swimming Club offer lessons for school age children and Department of Education run VacSwim lessons in December.

A range of school holiday activities are available.
Active fun days are run in partnership with Nyungar Wellbeing and Sports each holidays. Brookton Community Resource Centre and REED Brookton also run school holiday programmes.
